Cairns
This composition of flanking feather rock and driftwood cairns suggests a narrow channel from open water into a calm deepwater lagoon. A waterfall tumbles from the taller cairn into the lagoon, and a fisherman’s shack and dock are perched at the water’s edge. A fishing boat has reached its mooring there, while another approaches under a Ming fern growing from the cairn on the opposite shore of the channel.
The Korean tray, a casting of 85% mica and graphite, was hand buffed and waxed. The Chinese characters at the right edge of the tray are the Chinese characters for “shan” (mountains) and “chuan” (streams).
