Tepuis are table-top mountains or mesas remaining from the erosion of large sandstone plateaus. The largest concentration of tepuis is in southeastern Venezuela on the border with Guyana and Brazil.

Tepuis are isolated from the rain forest below, with their own climate and vegetation. These unique environments inspired Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel The Lost World.

This composition was created from feather rock with particularly dramatic grain patterns reflective of the eroded formations of tepuis. Depicting the unique and colorful flora and fauna of tepuis are two miniature fiery-shouldered parakeets and creeping impatiens in the foreground.
