The Seychelles were formed by tectonic rifts in the area of the Indian Ocean over 700 million years ago. Wind and water erosion since then shaped the rugged granite peaks of St. Pierre Island. Though entirely different in composition, the Ohko stone used in this piece closely reflects the unique contours of St. Pierre Island’s peaks.
The cedar tray was lined with tinted marine epoxy, and the exterior was charred using the Japanese technique of yakisugi.
