The curving, vertical grain of a large feather rock boulder initially encouraged opening it to reveal more of this character. But like a classic book seems to open naturally to its most inspiring passage, the rock opened to a unique seam of red and gray inclusions with dramatic mosaic patterns. The final composition respects this development, displaying the mosaic faces of each island, yet preserving the curving grain of the original boulder.
