Iglulik is a small island hamlet between the Canadian mainland and Baffin Island. This arctic island was originally inhabited by the Dorset people 4000 years ago.

Iglulik enjoys long, sunny days from May to August; icebergs drift past the island, as well as migrating pods of whales and walruses; plants emerge around the many inuksuk (stone markers), and numerous birds visit, including the murres depicted in this composition.

The Korean tray, a casting of 85% mica and graphite, was hand burnished and sealed.
