This tabletop garden incorporates several features of Japanese courtyard gardens, particularly the stone basin filling from a bamboo fountain. Almost invisible in the foreground is a tiny frog resting beneath the lantern on the driftwood stump. Soft water sounds are created by the gentle overflow from the basin running over the gravel and returning to the miniature pump in the reservoir below.

The Korean mica tray is hand-burnished, but otherwise unfinished.
