Hon Non Bo
In Chinese culture, the heron is a symbol of strength, purity, patience and long life. It is also symbolic among African, Egyptian, and Native American cultures.
In this scene, the wings of a lone white heron whisper through the mist from a waterfall, briefly interrupting a hermit’s meditation. The fleeting moment is depicted against a rocky backdrop inspired by the pinnacles of the Tianzi Mountain National Forest in Hunan, China.
The Korean tray, a casting of 85% mica and graphite, was hand-rubbed and waxed, but otherwise left unfinished.
