Inuksuit
During the brief arctic summer, plants and animals thrive in the warm microclimates surrounding some ancient stone markers known as inuksuit. At summer’s end, millions of birds leave their summer breeding grounds for their wintering grounds in the south. Arctic terns, depicted in this composition, have one of the longest commutes of any animal on earth – from the Arctic Circle to the Antarctic Circle.
