Hon Non Bo
This imaginary landscape evolved spontaneously from the textures and colors inside a large feather rock boulder. The natural shapes and the flow of water and mist direct the eye toward the boatman. The rose-colored pattern on the narrow vertical stone resembles a hand sheltering the boat as it passes through the narrow channel.
The interior of the handmade cedar tray was sealed with tinted marine epoxy. The exterior surfaces were treated using an ancient Japanese technique for preserving wood known as yakisugi (literally “burned cedar”).
