The Three Brothers is a group of huge, steep rocks that serve as a natural breakwater at the entrance to Avacha Bay at the southeast corner of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. Ancient legend has it that these huge rocks are the forms of three men who saved their people from a tsunami by guarding the mouth of the bay.

The Three Brothers serve as nesting nesting grounds for great numbers of sea birds, such as the gulls depicted in this composition.
