Wallscapes
Coats Island, at the northern end of Hudson Bay in the Canadian arctic, is home to large colonies of thick-billed murres. Dependent on sea ice to feed, these birds are among many animals threatened by worldwide climate change. Ancient inuksuit, stone monuments built by Inuit and other arctic peoples, stand as reminders of a time when humans lived in closer harmony with nature. Tiny lichens and flowers often surround these structures during the arctic summer.
A grow lamp recessed behind the frame accentuates the surface textures and facilitates plant growth, allowing this composition to be located on any wall, irrespective of available sunlight.
