Portfolio > Spirit Stones

Patient study of all sides of a 3’ feather rock boulder enabled the artist to develop a mental picture of the grain patterns swirling within the stone. Among these patterns the artist perceived two adjacent spires and was able to release them successfully with chisel and hammer.

Each of the stones was positioned on its own Corian pedestal, or daiza, in the manner of formal display of scholars’ rocks.

The final composition preserves the age-old formations of these unique stones and enlivens their companionship with the addition of a waterfall, mist, and plants.
