Tepuis are table-top mountains or mesas remaining from the erosion of large sandstone plateaus. The largest concentration of tepuis is in southeastern Venezuela on the border with Guyana and Brazil.

Also referred to as "islands above the rainforest", the plateaus of tepuis are completely isolated from the ground forest, with unique climate and vegetation. These isolated environments inspired Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel, The Lost World.

This composition was created from a feather rock with particularly dramatic grain patterns reflecting the eroded formations of tepuis.
