Following the varying density, grain patterns, and rose-colored fragments within a large featherock boulder yielded the shapes of the islands in this composition. The boulder was the product of a violent volcanic eruption in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains some 40,000 years ago.
The modified Korean mica tray was hand-burnished and waxed.
